TINGKAPAW FESTIVAL ON BASAY, NEG. OR. PHILIPPINES
Tingkapaw Festival is the major festival here in the Municipality of Basay. It has basic steps: "the wave", "arya", "Bugsay", and "salum" (swim).
Every first quarter of the year, fish are caught in great abundance in the waters of Basay. People from all parts of the province flock to the town to avail of the fresh and affordable fish. This season of bounty is locally called "kapaw", which means happiness. Indeed, it is a time to be happy and merry, a time for thanksgiving. The word has become an inspiring term for brimming abundance of wealth and resources, wit and wisdom, progress and development. The local folks' talent, creativity and ingenuity are now celebrated in a festival which is focused on local fishing traditions and of the sea that nourishes life and propels progress. Tingkapaw was done every March 14-16.
